The Legend of "Breakaway"

The original Charter Boat Breakaway was purchased by Captain Stokes Walker and Bronwyn Walker soon after their daughter, Ann, was born in 1980. The Breakaway was a 52 foot sport fisher, coast guard certified to carry up to 16 passengers. Kelly Docks in Destin, FL was the home base of the Breakaway where the boat was harbored from 1980-2000.

Captain Stokes hired Shawn Dahnke to be his First mate and they stuck by each other's side for the next twenty years.  Brodie, the Walker's second child came along in 1983 and was soon right by Stokes and Shawn's side, learning from the pros. Growing up poking at fish eyes and stepping through fish carcasses on the docks, it was a given that Brodie would become a fish head waterman. On any given day you could find these three fishing on the Breakaway, competing in tournaments, and enjoying life on the water.  The Breakaway offered private fishing charters trolling for king mackerel, wahoo, mahi mahi; or bottom fishing for grouper, snapper, and triggerfish. Cobia fishing along the shores of Destin, was a huge attraction for charters during the months of April through July. Other options included offshore overnight bill fishing charters to catch trophies like blue marlin, white marlin, spearfish, and sailfish.

The Breakaway was sold in 2001 shortly after Stokes passed away, leaving his son Brodie to fulfill his legacy.  Experience the Breakaway hospitality and knowledge Stokes would be so proud of. Book your dream vacation today!
